OCALI works hard to create an inclusive culture. We understand that people find strength in their identity, so OCALI may use person-first language, identity-first language, or a combination of the two at different times based on the person or audience. By having respect for the different perspectives that empower the people we serve, we promote greater access and understanding to make peoples’ lives better and to inspire change in our communities.

Autistic individuals often have difficulties with social competence and understanding how their behavior impacts themselves and others. Likewise, neurotypical people often have difficulties with understanding the autistic person's reactions and responses. As a result, social interactions can suffer. The educational support known as the Incredible 5-Point Scale provides a visual representation of social and emotional concepts and abstract ideas. It is a simple scale used to teach social understanding and emotional regulation.

Module Objectives:

Demonstrate positive and functional ways to respond to and interact with individuals prior to and during difficult situations using the Incredible 5-Point Scale
Explain how to use the 5 levels of the 5-Point Scale based on identification of problematic situations and 5 possible responses the person might exhibit
Complete a 5-Point Scale to promote self-management and emotional regulation and to teach social and emotional understanding
